Distance between lovers is usually considered to be a bad thing. It’s hard to make a relationship work under any circumstances, but when two people are separated by many miles it only adds to the problem. Problems of jealousy, loneliness, and the desire for companionship are all much harder when physical distance separates a couple. The idea of a long distance relationship usually sounds okay, but in practice it often doesn’t work out. Is the long-distance relationship a myth, or a lovely possibility?

Long-distance Relationship: A Myth Or Possibility

The most important aspect of any relationship is trust, and distance is often the agent that most weakens that bond. For some reason, it’s easier to trust what we can see. When we cannot see the one we love, trust gets somehow even harder to produce. It often becomes the breaking point of any long-distance relationship. But, that doesn’t mean all long-distance relationships will fail.

For any LDR to succeed, it must end – but not necessarily end with a break up. Meaning, at some point, a long distance relationship must become a real relationship. The distance must be shortened, the two must be brought back together. Unless there is some hope of one day sharing the same space, a long-distance relationship isn’t much of a relationship at all. There are many reasons that some relationships might have to go long distance for a little while, but this situation will eventually have to end. Otherwise, the entire relationship will.

It’s possible to make a long distance relationship work for a little while, but in the long run it’s just a bad idea. Any long distance relationship should be re-affirmed by visiting one another, and communicating through other means as often as possible. Love has to have a physical connection, even if only at brief intervals. No relationship will work unless the two people involved can regularly reunite. Love without physical contact is extremely unfulfilling, for both parties.

Long distance relationship aren’t a myth, and they can succeed. Like all relationships, they take a lot of work and a lot of trust. But if lovers can make it through the test of taking their relationship long distance for a little while, they can emerge with a much stronger love relationship than before. In many ways, a little distance can make the bond of love grow stronger.
